Hot Rod Motorcycle

HRM will teach you the mechanical aspects of custom motorcycle fabrication and assembly. Hot Rod Motorcycle covers the skills needed to build a custom bike from the frame up. Students will gain valuable experience from lecture and extensive lab (hands-on) opportunities. We have scheduled the tasks to follow the process in which a high end custom bike shop would build a bike.

Students will study the skills necessary to repair and build custom motorcycles. Students’ educational competencies include planning a chopper project, basic machining operations, electrical activities, and precision measuring exercises. Students will discuss the different the frame and suspension designs utilized in custom motorcycle fabrication and the jigs necessary to build them. Engine/transmission/primary to rear axle alignment is explored in great detail due to the meticulous nature of a safe driveline installation. Students will be able to describe rake, and its importance, along with various front fork options. Carburetor theory and adjustment, current fuel injection systems, wheel and brake installation, exhaust design, and the numerous generations of ignition systems are all examined with the help of the instructor. Students will also learn the idiosyncrasy of the parts research and the aftermarket parts industry. Students are required to keep an hourly work log and document their work with pictures for portfolio development.
